ABOUT LA UNION

Talk about yourself and your family // Hablanos sobre ti y tu familia

I’m Yaneth Rodriguez, 36 years old, proud being a women in specialty coffee. I come from a long line of coffee producers—I’m a third-generation coffee farmer. Since I was young, I’ve been immersed in the world of coffee, learning from my father and taking those lessons to heart. I work hard for my farm and also to give the example to my beautiful daughter that she means everything to me.

When did you start growing coffee? //Cuando comenzó con su finca?

I ventured into specialty coffee around five years ago, taking the step to elevate the quality of what we produce and share it with the world. Growing coffee I started around 2010.

What made you work in this industry? //Que lo hizo dedicarse al café?

Since I was little, my father taught me about coffee farming. Later, I started my own family, and now me and my husband we work in the field which allowed me to keep learning more about coffee cultivation.

Where is your farm located? Can you tell us a bit more about it: size, climate, altitude, and accessibility. // Donde esta su finca? Nos podria contra de que tamaño es, cual es el clima predominante y como es el acceso?

My farm is located in Santiago de Puringla, La Paz with 3 hectares of land.

Which kind of processing do you use for your coffee? //Que tipos de procesos usa para su cafe?

I work exclusively with the natural process. This involves harvesting only the ripest cherries and fermenting them as whole cherries for 24 hrs. I then carefully spread them to start the drying process and they dry slowly over 30 days, closely monitoring humidity levels to ensure optimal results. The coffee is stored only when it reaches 10% humidity, preserving its unique profile and quality. I did worked with washed coffess, but now my preference is to work mainly with natural coffees.

What does direct trade mean to you? How do you usually sell your coffee after harvest? //  Que significa para usted el comercio directo? Como vende su café después de la cosecha?

Direct trade, to me, means being able to sell my coffee and have a direct relationship with you, the buyers, through Café Raga. After the harvest, I prepare my coffee as a micro-lot and send it to the exporter for it to be shipped to you.

Do you have any projects for the farm? About processing or infrastructure?// Tiene algún proyecto con su finca? En cuanto a proceso o infraestructura?

Yes, I want to keep learning more about specialty coffee, plant more areas with new coffee varieties, and continue improving our infrastructure to enhance our coffee preparation. I want to invest to have raised beds for a better quality in my drying process.

How did you got to know (about) Project Origin?// Como conocio sobre Project Origin?

Through Café Raga’s connection, which helps us learn about and connect with our coffee buyers.

How did you process this coffee // Hablanos como procesaste el lote compramos

This lot is from La Union, where we perform consistent and careful work. I complete each step with great dedication. Preparing my coffee means everything because it is all my effort and I am proud that my effort gives beautiful profile notes in the cup.
