It is the year-end and many roasters like to customize a special roast for that special time of the year. As people wind down and reflect, and spent time with friends and family over good food and drink, coffee has always had a special place. Some drink all day, others may serve it after dinner to cleanse the palates after a hearty meal, or with the decadent desserts often served during this time, like panettone, fruit cake, and more.

We have two blends, Christmas Blend by Ghostbird and Vivid by Cloudcatcher. Both are prominent Malaysian roasters and have been feature coffees by Kopi.Social often.

They will have their differences but let’s start with the similarities. Both are designed for the season and the food, so they may or may not be your cup of coffee to pick you up after a long night or to get to work.

Christmas Blend by Ghostbird

This blend goes with more straightforward tastes, a balanced fruity profile, medium finish with a hint of sweetness of brown sugar. It of course pairs well with any Christmas dinner or dessert but also afternoon teas with leftover dessert.

Vivid by Cloudcatcher

Like its namesake, this is a very bright profile coffee, with a complex notes of red wine, and berries with bolder notes of molasses coming much later. It is also harder to get right on simpler low-end espresso pump machines. As it’s a bright coffee, it pairs well following a meal with roasted dark meats or with rich desserts such as dark chocolate and rum fruitcake.

Kopi.Social Notes

For those seeking a new taste during the year-end, Christmas Blend may be easier to pull a nice espresso or filter. Vivid on the other hand, with its Carbonic maceration process results in some people calling the espresso sour. Well, coffee is a berry and berries are sour. Many are used to bitter coffee due to the local method of literally dark roasting to point of burntness robusta beans.
